Harold P. Hurst

Harold P. Hurst, 78, of Salem, Arkansas, passed away Wednesday, November 29, 2017, at Fulton County Hospital in Salem, Arkansas. 

He was born in Mammoth Spring, Arkansas on January 14, 1939, son of the late Gola Marie (Kester) and John Harrison Hurst. Harold spent his life as a loving son, brother, father, grandfather, great grandfather, and friend. He was united in marriage to Virginia Cotham in November of 1960 and from this union two daughters were born, Debra and Tonya. He was of the Baptist faith. During his working years, he owned a construction and drywall business. Later on in life, he owned Harold’s Flea Market in Salem for many years. Harold loved his family and friends, auctions, finding a good deal and hot peppers. He collected knives, guns, and harmonica’s. Harold was a practical jokester and loved making people laugh. 

Harold is survived by his daughters, Debra L. Alsdorf of Normal, Illinois and Tonya Armstead and husband Marshall of Mammoth Spring, Arkansas; four grandchildren, Lauren Alsdorf, Taylor Rhoades and husband Nick all of Normal, Illinois, Ashlee Decock of Bloomington, Illinois and Allison Decock and fiancé Nick Taylor of Salem, Arkansas; four great grandchildren, Brennon, Mercy and Jett Rhoades and Lainey Hansen; three sisters, Kathryn Zehr (Junior), JoAnn Hurst, and Janice Deal and husband Robert all of Pontiac, Illinois, three brothers, Lloyd Hurst and wife Geneva of Nixa, Missouri, Billy Don Hurst of Mammoth Spring, Arkansas and Gary Hurst of Springfield, Missouri and special friend, Charlene Case.

He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Gola Hurst; son-in-law, Ron Alsdorf; sister, Johnie Lou Pence and brother-in-law, Ronnie Pence.

Funeral services will be Sunday, December 3, 2017 beginning at 2:30 PM with Bro. John Hodges officiating at Salem First Baptist Church in Salem, Arkansas. Visitation will be Sunday, December 3, 2017 from 1:00 PM until service time. Interment will follow at Thayer Cemetery in Thayer, Missouri. 

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be made to his family in care of his granddaughter, Lauren Alsdorf.
