Helen Romayne (Kenyon) Guthrie, 89 of Salem, AR went home to be with her Savior on Tuesday, September 15, 2026.
Helen was born in Fountain, Colorado on July 4, 1937 to Arthur Henry and Emma Hale (Keatley) Kenyon. She grew up in Colorado Springs, CO and graduated high school in 1955. She met the love of her life, Don Guthrie, who was stationed at Fort Carson, CO, at a church function. They married on July 3, 1955 in Colorado Springs, CO and were married for 65 years until his passing in January, 2021. They loved, raised and nurtured four children: Patricia, Debra, Thomas and Janet.
Helen was very proud of being a “homemaker” and was always there for her husband and children every afternoon after school & work. She enjoyed sewing, knitting, crochet, embroidery and reading – lots & lots of reading. She faithfully read her Bible daily and loved sharing the daily devotion.
When Don retired from the oilfields, they moved from Rozet, WY to Salem in September, 1991. She was excited & loved making their new house a “home”. Some of her favorite mornings were sitting at the table watching the deer, hummingbirds and, occasionally, turkeys work their way through the yard.
Helen was a member of Salem First Baptist Church, joining in 1992 where she was church clerk for many years. She dearly loved church fellowship and looked forward to it every week. When it became too difficult for her to attend church physically, she was so very thankful that she was able to “attend” by watching the services on tv. She enjoyed traveling & site seeing, fishing, camping, elk hunting and playing games - Hand & Foot and Pinochle, in particular. She really enjoyed the church “Young At Heart” dinners, field trips and fellowship. Her greatest joys however, were being with her family – kids, grandkids, great-grands – and watching them grow and thrive. She was honorably considered a “second mother” to many throughout the years.
Helen is survived by her children: Patty Bryant (Roger), Debbie Oster (Lars), Tom Guthrie (Sandy) and Janet Kanode (Floyd). Twelve grandkids – Gene Williamson, Erick Oster (Sheila), Laressa Ward (Bradley), Candice Broyles (Charles), Tara Armbrester (Lance), Holly Williamson (Kyle Ewald), Taylor Guthrie (Khadedra), Tori Guthrie, Rex Kanode, Aaron Kanode (Aubrey), Sheryl Bryant, Keela Bryant and eleven great-grandkids – Mitchell, Paige & Sadie Broyles, Raven Oster (Cyrus), Lilith Johnson (Logan), Angel Vanberkom, Ayden Oster, Callie & Seth Armbrester, Taynori Priester, Alexander Bryant and a blessed one on the way. She is also survived by a long list of close friends & extended family.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Don; her parents, one brother, Elmer Miles and three sisters Maxine Roberts, Myrtle Sypher and Betty Wilson.
