Helena Theresa Olsen

Helena Theresa Olsen, 93 of Viola, Arkansas passed away Friday December 1, 2023, in her home in Viola.

She was born in Chicago, Illinois on September 11, 1930. She was the daughter of Joseph F. and Iona (Hoerup) Mohar. Helena was united in marriage to Clarence G. Olsen and 2 children were born to this union, Norma and Robert.

She graduated from Columbus Hospital School of Nursing which was affiliated with Loyola University and Cook County Hospital in Chicago, Illinois. She also attended Margret Haque Maternity Hospital in New Jersey. Helena did her post graduate course in obstetrics in 1953. She was a registered Nurse for over 50 years.

Helena was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, American Legion Auxiliary, Zenobria Temple, and the Daughters of the American Revolution.

After moving to Viola, Helena worked for the Viola post office for 19 years as well as The Fulton County Hospital for 5 years. She volunteered for the Red Cross (preparation for parenthood classes and Lamaze) for over 30 years. She also volunteered as a Foster Grandparent for WRAAA for over 10 years.

Helena had many hobbies such as traveling and gardening.

Helena is survived by by her Daughter, Norma (Clifton) Tumlin. Daughter in law, Jennifer Olsen. Three Granddaughters, Sarah, Ashley, and Megan. Four Great Grandsons, Norman, Robert, Mitchell, and Keith. One Great Granddaughter Emily. And several nieces and nephews both in the US and Europe.

She was preceded in death by both parents, brother Joseph P. Mohar, and son Robert C. Olsen.

Funeral Services will be this Wednesday December 6, 2023 beginning at 12:00 PM at Doty Family Funeral Service Chapel in Salem with Bother Tom Doty officiating. Visitation will be prior to the service beginning at 11:00 AM. Burial will follow services at the Viola Cemetery.
