Marlene Susan Thompson passed away on July 3, 2026, in West Plains, Missouri, at the age of 68. Born on April 18, 1958, in Inglewood, California, daughter of Ernest Joseph Burns, Jr. and Mercedes Elizabeth (Battaglia) Burns.

She shared her life in marriage with her late husband, Dave Thompson, with whom she created a loving home filled with laughter and care. Together, they raised a son, John Powell, who remained a source of immense pride and joy for Marlene. The family’s bonds were further strengthened by the gift of a daughter- in-law, Reanna and grandchildren, Iverlee Powell and Jensen Powell, who brought light into Marlene’s later years and were constant reminders of life’s joys.

Marlene enjoyed quilting and sewing and often made quilts for family members. She loved to play pool and go fishing with her husband, Dave and spent countless hours baking with her grandchildren. 

She will be deeply missed, lovingly remembered, and honored in the hearts of all those whose lives she touched.

Marlene is survived by her son, John Powell and his wife, Reanna; sister, Rosina Burns; grandchildren, Iverlee and Jensen Powell and niece, Krista.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Dave Thompson; sister, Debbie Burns and brother, Ernest Burns.
