Wanda Mae Holloway, 87, of Moko, Arkansas, passed away, Friday, June 27, 2025, in Mountain Home, Arkansas.
She was born in Moko, Arkansas, on May 14, 1938, daughter of the late William Vester and Minnie (Carter) Peterson. Wanda was united in marriage to Rayburn Holloway on January 15, 1960, in Cushman, Arkansas, and they were married 57 years until his death in 2017. She was a homemaker and mother, proudly called Mama, who provided her family with wholesome country cooking. She loved yard sales and comparing grocery specials and was an expert at making a little go a long way. She always had time to love on her grandchildren, who still made her smile even on the hardest days of her illness. Her favorite way to love people was to feed them. Her chicken and dumplings are legendary, and she sought to make every family member’s favorite candy each Christmas. She was a faithful wife, traveling to the nursing home almost daily the last three years of Rayburn’s life to ensure quality care. She held old-fashioned morals and was the toughest, most strong-willed person ever known. She fought her declining health harder than anyone should have to, but she was tough and didn’t give up without a long fight. Wanda loved her family, and they will miss her greatly.
Wanda is survived by her daughters, Sharon Collins and husband Andy of West Plains, Missouri, Linda Weatherford and husband Dennis of West Plains, Missouri, and Carol Belcher and husband Steve of Wentzville, Missouri; 9 grandchildren, Heather Cahoj and husband Philip of West Plains, Missouri, Chassity Boger and husband Justin of Crescent City, Florida, Levi Collins of West Plains, Missouri, Melissa Weatherford of Springfield, Missouri, Amber Capps and husband Jeremy of Matthews, Missouri, Nic Perry of Bentonville, Arkansas, Whitney Miller and husband Seth of Gainesville, Missouri, Larissa Stevenson of Sallisaw, Oklahoma, and Christopher Short of Sallisaw, Oklahoma; and 18 great-grandchildren, Gracelyn, Landon, Brayden, Maddox, Gavin, Cadi, Jude, Airalynn, Elenie, Addison, Katherine, Oliver, Rya, Rorie, Ella, Edward, Titan, and Aubree.
She was preceded in death by husband, Rayburn Holloway; daughter, Joyce Ann; stepdaughter, Lucreta Stevenson; brothers, Thurman (Duke) Peterson, Oscar Peterson, Kenny Peterson, Norman Peterson, Dale Peterson, Loyd Peterson, Truman Peterson and Earl Peterson; and sisters, Marie Peterson and Maxine Robinson.
Funeral services will be Wednesday, July 2, 2025, beginning at 2:00 PM with Bro. Mason Eslinger officiating at Doty Family Funeral Service Chapel in Salem, Arkansas. Internment will follow at State Line Cemetery in Moko, Arkansas. Visitation will begin at 1:00 PM until service time.
